Giving Thanks

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;

His love endures forever.

Psalm 118:1

Happy Thanksgiving. I was in the midst of a thankful post when I realized I was signed in to my daughter's blog. It could have been a rather confusing post on her blog as I rattled on about my husband and children. So, among the many other reasons I have to be thankful, I am also thankful I realized I was on the wrong blog.

As I look at my life, there is so much to be thankful for, and I want to thank God for it all. Gratitude is good and appropriate. Just as my daughter should say thank you, as well as hopefully feel genuinely appreciative, for the birthday gifts she receives today, I need to be thankful for each gift God gives me. God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good. Circumstances will change and some of the things I am thankful for today will change too. But for today, I can be thankful for them all. And for eternity, I can be thankful that the things which should produce the greatest gratitude, will not change and will last forever.

You are my God, and I will give You thanks;
you are my God, and I will exalt You.
Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
His love endures forever.
Psalm 118:28,29

P.S. I am also thankful I thought to use spell check before walking away from this -- how embarassing to keep misspelling "gratitude" on a thankful post! Did you know it wasn't a double"t"?

It's All in the Presentation

This picture has nothing to do with anything I am planning to write, I just thought it might make whatever I end up writing appear more interesting at first glance. I think that would be considered a marketing ploy.

A couple of weeks ago, I received something in the mail addressed to my husband & I. It was from my mother-in-law. Upon opening it, I discovered it contained an article entitled, "Sex and the Mind". It is not uncommon for Scott's mom to send us articles, and quite common for her to give us advice, but she had never sought to advise us in this particular subject matter. I was a tad concerned as I waved it in front of my husband and shrieked, "Look what your mother sent us!"

However, upon reading further, I realized the article was drawing attention to a study about the relationship between caffeine and dementia. Apparently those who drink several cups of coffee each day fare much better when it comes to preventing the onset of dementia. The article also cited the disparity of results between men and women, noting that the effect was more dramatic in women. Thus, the article had nothing to do with what I'd originally thought, and everything to do with the differences of gender in this study on the mind. Technically, "Sex and the Mind" was an accurate title, but I rather doubt accuracy was the goal here, rather a carefully crafted marketing ploy to draw in extra readers and give unsuspecting daughter-in-laws the willies!

After I was able to get beyond the title, I actually found the article rather inspiring and have looked upon caffeinated coffee as somewhat of a health marvel ever since. I hope it does not turn out that Starbucks was the one sponsoring the study and monitoring the results...gotta be careful of these marketing ploys!
